The Languedoc
Roussillon region stretches for over two hundred kilometres from the Spanish
border along the mediterranean coast to the Rhone river and Provence.The
northern boundaries are on the lower edge of the Massif Central and the area is
dominated by the Cevennes Mountains.
The Capital and university city of
Montpellier is well worth a visit with its wide boulevards, 17th and 18th
century houses and its many gardens and parks which include the Jardin des
plants, Frances first Botanical garden which was created in 1593.
The
Languedoc Roussillon region is home to Frances most productive wine growing area
with 740,300 acres of vineyard which is approx 3 times more than the Bordeau
region. some of the most famous wines include Corbieres, Pays d'Oc, Syrah
Grenache,Faugeres, Minervois and Saint Chinan.
